COST: $5.00 to $10.00
price is dependent on the price of your knob and frame.
here's what you'll need...
- Unfinished wood frame - the sample is an 10" x 8" frame, with a 5x4 window - a quick note on the frame: because this project is supposed to look like a door, hence the door knob, try to use a rectangular frame where the window is offset slightly. If you are handy with a jigsaw, or know someone who is, you can make your own using mdf board or whatever larger scrap of wood you may already have.
- Acrylic Paint - white for the undercoat and whatever color you want your door to be
- Door Knob
- Stamp
- Sandpaper
- Quote
here's what you'll do with it all...
- Paint an undercoat of white, allow to dry to the touch, then apply a couple of topcoats of your color choice. It's best to let this dry for an hour or so before sanding.
- Sand just enough to shabby up the edges and a few patches on the surface.
- Stamp a flourish of your liking. Allow your stamping to dry for a little while, then very gently sand it to fade it out. Depending on what you have, you could stamp under the knob so that it looks like a door plate like in the sample, as a frame around the window, or perhaps on the top and bottom of the window. You could even do something coming down or up from the corners like a vine or foliage. It's really up to you.
- Drill a hole for your door knob, then attach. Depending on how you will display your "door", you may need to cut the excess length of thread of your screw.
- Print and insert the scripture. You'll want to print it on cardstock - a darker tan, more earthy color would better than just plain white. Click here to download a copy of the insert used in this project.
