Black & White Nativity

COST: approx. $5.00

here's what you'll need...
  • Wood blocks - 2 pieces of 2x4 and 1 piece of 2x6 - each cut to about 5.5" long. You can probably get cut-offs in the lumbar area of most home improvement stores - they'll even cut them down for you.
  • Acrylic paint - black
  • Nativity pictures - the exact site for these pictures wasn't available, but similar ones can easily be found online. They were printed on a regular home inkjet printer.
  • Knobs for the top
  • Ribbon for accent

here's what you'll do with it all...
  • Sand the block just to smooth out the rouch edges
  • Brush on a couple coats of black paint
  • Sand just enough to give a worn look
  • Apply pictures - you can use most types of liquid sticky glue - or use Modge Podge if you want to paint a finishing coat all over the front of your pictures and blocks. I used sticky glue to adhere the pictures only, and left them with more of a matte look rather than the satin look you get when covering with Modge Podge.
  • Drill holes in the top of each block and screw in your knobs. Note: you'll need to shave off the flat end of the screw that comes with your knob - then screw one end into the knob and the other end into your wood block.
  • Tie your ribbon around each knob.
