What's in a Name

more instructions to come..
please check back in a day or two.

COST: pricing depends on the length of your name,
and the type of framing you choose.

Spell your family name using the shapes, textures and architectural elements found in the structure of the temple, and it's surrounding grounds. This would be a fun family activity - going on a spiritual scavenger hunt as you look for letter shapes that would fit your name.

The significance of these letters is that they use temple elements. Being able to "see" potential letters in those elements may be a little tricky at first. However, there are several sites online that show some really good examples of lettering found in buildings, signs, and all sorts of objects that we might normally miss. Simply go online and begin a generic search for "alphabet photos" - as you visit the sites and look over their examples, take note of how they've turned the shape on it's side, upside-down, or even cut it in half to make their letter. For example, an "L" might be a portion of a window pane, an "r" the left half on an arch, portions of a fence might resemble an "E". This project will make you think out side the box a little bit and view things with a slightly different perspective. Which isn't always a bad thing.

what you'll need...
  • Alphabet Letters - 4x6 shots are a good size - you can do 5x7's if you prefer
  • A Frame - A piece of 10x2, cut to the length needed to accomodate your name works great. If you have a shorter name you may be able to find a ready made frame, with a multi-windowed mat that'll suit your needs. As a happy medium, you may also be able to custom cut a long piece of matting - you can do this yourself if you're pretty savvy with and Xacto knife, or leave it to the professionals at any framing store!
  • Paint - any kind of acrylic will work - use crafters paint, or even regular house paint
  • Scrapbook Paper - this will be part of your background and "frame" your letters - add about an inch to the height and width of your background, depending on how much you want showing once you've placed you pictures on top of them
  • Ribbon or other embellishments for contrast or decoration
here's what you'll do with it all...
  • Cut your board -
  • Paint your board
